<responsibilities>We work with several leading hospitals, research institutes, and hospices in Cape Town and coordinate both research-based and clinical health care programs. Responsibilities range from providing non-medical care to patients, attending ward rounds and helping the nursing staff to conducting medical research. Past projects have included helping to lead health care-related workshops in local communities, assisting with the development of a pediatric pain management manual, studying the effectiveness of epidurals, and providing hands-on help and support to nurses and patients. Specific public health-related projects have included:

The Parents Program --- supports parents with hospitalized children from disadvantaged communities; the Program provides information and training to parents so that they can better provide for the health and safety of their children, once discharged from the hospital.

Triage Training — supports nurses and doctors in community clinics. These training workshops educate local staff on understanding the patient’s needs, medical condition and state of emergency.

Community Recourse Database for Burn and Rape Victims. Currently such patients are not well reintegrated into society, with little or no support provided to children or parents. The project involves investigating available resources in Cape Town, collating information, and creating a support network for victims.

Mentoring Programs -- involve working with youth regarding issues related to HIV/AIDS, sexuality and adolescence</responsibilities>
